KYE has been the centre of controversy stemming from an April 2010 National Labor Committee report that alleges the company runs its large Dongguan manufacturing complex, workplace to thousands, as a sweatshop. It states that the staff are made to work 15 hours shifts for a take-home wage of 52 cents an hour, and that management exert draconian control over the largely teenage, female, student workforce.[1]
The Dongguan municipal authority has since refuted some of the assertions made in the report of child labour and sweatshop conditions, claiming that no staff under 16 years of age is employed by KYE, that overtime is paid accordingly, and that conditions in the factory are not harsh.[2]
Genius won two Business Marketing Association awards for B2B Marketing Excellence.[3]
Genius (KYE) was recognized as one of the "Hottest Silicon Valley Companies" by Lead411.[4]
According to an Interbrand study, the Genius brand ranked 19th on the Top Taiwan Global Brands of 2010, with a US$68 Million brand value.[5]
